Justice UU Lalit took oath as the 49th Chief Justice of India on 27 August 2022.

Justice UU Lalit is one of the six senior advocates who have been directly elevated to the Supreme Court.

On January 10, 2019, Justice UU Lalit attended a five-judge bench in the Ayodhya dispute case.

UU Lalit (Uday Umesh Lalit) became a member of the Maharashtra and Goa Bar Council in June 1983.

Justice UU Lalit will have a tenure of 74 days as CJI and will demit office on November 8 on attaining the age of 65 years.
